Personal data
What we collect, why, for how long, and your rights.
Who is responsible?
The data controller is ARC Academy (Africa Resource Centre), represented by Babacar Lo. Contact: Babacarlo@africaresourcecentre.org.
The processing complies with Senegalese law no. 2008-12 of 25 January 2008 on the protection of personal data. The declaration to the Personal Data Protection Commission (CDP) is in progress.
What data, and why?
- Your account (name, e-mail, phone, organisation, position, country, language): to give you access to your courses and to contact you about your training.
- Your progress (lessons completed, quiz and test results, dates, time spent): to follow your training, help you if you fall behind, and issue your certificate.
- Your certificates (number, course, date): so that you and your employer can prove them.
- Your messages (contact form, questions to your tutor): to answer you.
- Satisfaction surveys: to improve the courses. Results are published only as totals, never by name.
Who can see it?
- You.
- Your tutor, for the groups he or she follows.
- The training manager of your organisation, for the staff of that organisation.
- The ARC Academy team.
- The AI assistants used by the ARC team (Claude, by Anthropic) to manage registrations, partners and courses. They act on ARC's behalf and under its control, with limited rights, and each of their actions is recorded.
Your data is never sold, and is not used for advertising. Donors only receive totals (numbers and percentages), never names.
Certificate verification
Anyone who has the number of your certificate (printed on it) can check online your name, the course, the date and whether the certificate is valid. No search by name is possible.
Testimonials
We publish a testimonial only with your explicit agreement. You can withdraw it at any time by writing to us.
How long do we keep it?
- Account and progress: during your training, then 3 years after your last activity.
- Certificates: 10 years, so that they can still be verified.
- Contact requests: 1 year.
Where is it stored?
On a server rented from Hetzner in Germany (European Union, a country with an adequate level of protection), with daily encrypted backups.
When an AI assistant handles your file, the data it needs is processed by Anthropic, in the United States.
Cookies
We only use cookies that are necessary for the site to work: your session (to stay signed in) and your language. No advertising or tracking cookies. This is why there is no cookie banner.
Your rights
You can access your data, correct it, object to its use, or ask for it to be deleted (except certificates already issued, which must remain verifiable). Write to Babacarlo@africaresourcecentre.org. We reply within one month.
